“I would like to take a few minutes to talk about Hope for the Future Visitation Center. This center has a name that fits the description. The facility provides a safe place for families in crisis to visit, and for a brief period of time feel normal, and whole again. Positive, stress free visits are a vital key to reunification of families. The agency provides a family setting full of hope. The rooms are set up like living rooms with nice furniture and toys for the family to play with. The facility also provides video monitoring and audio so that families can have some sense of privacy. Hope for the Future provides a birthday room that can be used for parties and a kitchen. I have families that have spent time painting during visits, had meals together, and made crafts.

Hope for the Future provides a place that is not in an OKDHS building where families feel safe and are able to visit. The facility offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Clotiel Howard, director of Hope for the Future, can be seen with a huge smile welcoming families to the facility. Successful visits start with her positive attitude and cheerful greeting. Hope for the Future also provides a great place for agency employees to meet, discuss cases with each other and recharge. They provide a conference room that can be reserved for meetings and case staffings. We are blessed to have access to this facility. Hope for the Future makes visitations, which is often very stressful, a joyful time for families.

Hope for the Future is a place that allows us as OHS (Oklahoma Human Services) workers to not only have the ability to decompress and work in a peaceful environment, but it allows for our families to feel comfortable and enjoy the time they have with their children. When we bring children to visit their parents, Hope for the Future provides a place that resembles the most of a home-like environment. There is no clinical feel, there is no cold and sterile environment, it is warm and loving. Hope for the Future’s atmosphere promotes an environment of reunification, while providing a safe and welcoming feeling for our children and our parents.

As workers, Hope for the Future is our home away from home; we can sit in comfort, we can work, and we can be together as workers staffing cases if we need to, expressing our own emotions and hardships while tirelessly working to reunify children with their parents. We undergo untold amounts of stress and residual traumas from the work we do, Hope for the Future gives us a place as well to be able to release that stress, anxiety, and trauma - even if just for a moment - while we keep ever watchful eyes over our children and families.
